Teen Challenge London

Project overview

In 2022, via the Lind Trust, Graham donated the 20,000 square feet fully-furnished, Drayton Hall to charity, Teen Challenge London.

The hall, based in extensive grounds in Norwich, is now the charity’s rehabilitation centre, the home of their work which aims to free men from addiction and help them find direction through faith.

During the 11-month first three stages, men are supervised and supported to give up smoking, drink and drugs. Many come from abusive and broken families and through 14 bible-based studies they receive help to deal with the root problems of their addictions.

A structured programme offers classroom teaching of City & Guilds-recognised courses which include English, health and social care, customer services, maths and employability.

In the second stage of the programme, to prepare them to re-enter society, additional afternoon employment helps instill a work ethic in people whose addictions have often prevented them from being able to hold down jobs.

Teen Challenge started out with a single-decker bus which travelled around Ilford and Barking for 25 years. The outreach grew into areas including Whitechapel, Hackney, Brixton, Ealing and Waterloo weekly, giving out up to 20,000 meals per year. A more permanent ministry grew as the charity acquired buildings to develop a crisis centre. Over the years, the site expanded as it built residential facilities to house 29 men. It has also launched neighbourhood outreach and a separate charity, Exit Foundation, working with county lines gang members.
Graham said: ““The trustees of the Lind Trust are hugely supportive of all that Teen Challenge London has achieved in Ilford. The transfer of Drayton Hall provides ongoing kingdom use for a property that, joyfully over the past 30 years, has been instrumental in many coming into relationship with God.

“We look forward to Drayton Hall playing a role in seeing many escaping the misery of addiction, finding hope, wholeness and purpose – and new life in Jesus. I wish all at Teen Challenge every success in the future.”
